E-SPLOST

E-SPLOST stands for Education-Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. This is a 1-cent sales tax added to commercial purchases inside Dade County to fund public school-related expenditures.

This will be an extension of an already existing sales tax. This will NOT be an increase in sales tax beyond what it is now. The revenue cap raised on the upcoming E-SPLOST will be $26 million, meaning that, if passed, the school board will not have to put the E-SPLOST back up for a vote until that cap is reached. The current cap of $16 million runs out in a few months.

For more information on what the E-SPLOST can be used for, check out this Dade County Sentinel article.

The Dade County Democratic Committee will vote on its position concerning the E-SPLOST extension at its August 27th meeting.

The E-SPLOST vote for the public will be on Tuesday, November 4th.
